New year water festival (Thingyan) on a street in Yangon, 14 April 2004. People of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia celebrate Lunar newyear festival on the same days - usually in the middle of April. In Myanmar people throw water on each other. In many places they use pipes to spray water. Other activities such as stage shows of traditional dances, operas, as well as offering various services in Buddhist monasteries and temples are done during these holidays. |
